Dyslexia Screening & Assessment

The TOD (Tests of Dyslexia) can be used as a Screener or Comprehensive Assessment. The Screening includes 3 subtests to determine dyslexia risk. If the dyslexia risk indicates that further assessment is needed, the student would then be given anywhere from 6-20 more subtests (depending on the student’s age and the need) to look more diagnostically at the student's literacy profile- the TOD Comprehensive Assessment. Students in grades K-1 will likely participate in fewer subtests, while students in grades 2 to adulthood will participate in more subtests.

TOD-Screening Information:

  • Duration: Approximately 20-25 minutes

  • Ages: 5 to adult

  • Parents/caregivers complete rating form

  • Screening results report indicating dyslexia risk level

  • 20 to 30 minute screening results phone call with parent/caregiver

  • Screening includes 3 subtests to create a dyslexia risk index. Further comprehensive assessment can be recommended.

TOD-Comprehensive Assessment Information:

  • Duration: Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours with breaks being given to the student. These two hours can be broken into multiple sessions if needed.

  • Ages: 5 to adult

  • Teacher completes rating form

  • 30 to 45 minute assessment results phone call with parent/caregiver

  • Comprehensive assessment results report indicating probability of dyslexia

  • Results provide a probability of dyslexia, as well as in-depth knowledge of the student's foundational literacy skills. This knowledge can be used to design and support literacy instruction for the student. The findings can also be taken to a psychologist to add to a full psychological evaluation if desired.
